Waterproofing for Foundations
R. Brigante Excavating Specializes in Foundation Waterproofing Services
Waterproofing foundations is a common term for those of us in the north east. Since a lot of homes have basements that are underground, water penetration is often a common problem for homeowners. Believe it or not concrete is actually an absorbent material and will take on water through the crevices of the wall.
The most likely spot of the foundation to leak first is along the place where the wall meets the floor. The reason for this is because the floor and the walls are two separate pours of concrete. To stop the water from penetrating the outside wall the most common solution is to apply waterproof tar. While this is a very important and vital step to a dry basement, the work should never be done without installing proper drainage better known as footing drains. Waterproofing the foundation and installing footing drains will give clients the peace of mind to finish the basement.
